Dan Choi, a West Point graduate and officer in the Army National Guard who is fluent in Arabic and who returned recently from Iraq, received notice today that the military is about to fire him. Why? Because he came out of the closet as a gay man on national television.
This is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard for many reasons, but here I will list two. One, being fired because you are gay is simple discrimination and even if you are one of those right-wingers controlling the GOP, you have to admit this is complete BS. Two, firing an Arabic linguist for a poor reason while in the middle of a war is rather ridiculous and short-sighted especially since they are needed.
How can Obama continue to let this crap happen? He is the Commander-in-Chief. He is the head of the military. If Dan Choi was fired from the military for being gay, then Obama is obviously to blame and clearly condones this by allowing it to happen on his watch. He needs to reverse "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and allow anyone who wants to fight and die for this country do so.
btw, sorry I have been MIA. I am in the process of moving, training, and all kinds of other fun associated with this. I hope to get back to blogging soon, but count on me stopping by your blogs in the future even if I do not post. I have at least been reading when I get breaks. I may be MIA until sometime in July :-(
